Spinsters of San Francisco 2013-2014 Board of Directors
The Board of Directors of Spinsters of San Francisco acts as the executive leadership group, overseeing all events, activities, and interactions of the organization between our chosen charity and the San Francisco community. Please join the Board of Directors in our excitement as we celebrate 84 fabulous years of Spinsters of San Francisco!
Now in her second year as President, Laura Davis is a sixth-generation Californian hailing from sunny Sacramento. She loved the Bay Area and knew that for college she didn't want to be anywhere else. She graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in Environmental Science and a minor in City and Regional Planning. While at Cal, she was the Social Chair, New Member Educator, and Recruitment Counselor for Alpha Phi.
After graduating, she moved across the bay for the plentiful frozen yogurt, great wine bars, and so she could visit as many restaurants as she could in her Zagat Restaurant Guide book. Laura, although a huge fan of the sun, loves to relax while watching the fog roll in over the Golden Gate Bridge and sipping her favorite Pinot with fellow Spinnies. She is a huge San Francisco Giants fan; during a home game, your chance of finding her at AT&T Park or across the street at Pedro's are quite high. She thrives on a packed social calendar and loves to get dolled up for black-tie events including our Annual Ball held in June in the Penthouse Swig Suite at the Fairmont Hotel. Look for her this year at some of her other favorite Spinnie events - Potluck Dinners and Membership Wine Tour - or just brunching with the best eggs benedict and mimosas around town. Having been on the Board of Directors for two years, first as Membership Director, then President; Laura is absolutely thrilled to be on the board for a third year as President once again!
A Pacific Northwest native, Jenny was born and raised in Seattle. She then graced Boston with her presence by attending college at Harvard University to study Economics, followed by a stint in New York City. After eight incredibly cold winters, Jenny packed her bags and decided to return to her beloved west coast. Starting her career in private equity, she finally decided to embrace the San Francisco tech scene by joining a tech startup and now there's no turning back! Her move to San Francisco also introduced Jenny to Spinsters of San Francisco and thus a three year love affair began.
Joining Spinsters in 2011, she first helped plan our black-tie Holiday Ball. She then moved into a leadership role, raising money for our charity partner as Charity Party Co-Chair. With a passion for organization, fundraising, and discovery, Jenny can't wait to plan fabulous fetes for her fellow Spinnies in her current role as Vice President.
In her downtime time, Jenny can be found satisfying her avid appetite at new restaurants, exploring the culinary scene at the local Farmers Market, sprinting along the Marina Green, shivering at Giant's baseball games, or relaxing in Wine Country with friends. Some of her favorite Spinsters memories include Membership Happy Hours, Patrons Reception, and Wing Wednesdays with her favorite Spinnies.
Miss Spinster Michelle grew up in the great state of Texas. As a lover of traditions and college football, she eagerly headed off to Texas A&M University to where she majored in Business with a focus in Accounting and International Studies. Michelle quickly got the travel bug and spent one summer in a 'semester at sea' study abroad program eating, drinking, and dancing throughout Europe. While at Texas A&M, she was the Social Chair and on the Executive Board as Vice President of Programming for Delta Zeta.
Even though everything is bigger and better in Texas, Michelle couldn't resist the urge to live in the Big Apple. After four years and a Masters degree from New York University, she became infatuated with San Francisco and quickly made the cross-country move. After working at a tech startup and joining Spinsters of San Francisco, Michelle couldn't imagine life anywhere else!
Michelle's favorite Spinsters memories are too many to count, but she does have an affinity for the holidays. Between the smell of Christmas trees at Guardsmen Tree Lot and getting glammed up for Holiday Ball, there's no way you won't find her floating on cloud nine. After leadership positions as PR Co-Chair and Charity Party Co-Chair, Michelle is honored to serve on the Board of Directors as Secretary and looks forward to keeping her Spinnies well-informed with each edition of the Spinsters Newsletter.
Cassie grew up in the windy city of Chicago, where she then traded in sail boats for books at Purdue University, majoring in Civil Engineering. Upon graduation, she worked as an aviation planner for three years before pursuing her dream of a career in sports business. She earned her MBA from the University of Oregon and has has been on the 'best coast' ever since. As a financial analyst for Cal Athletics, you will find Cassie at many sporting events as a not-so-undercover Cal Bear fan. She has previously served as the President of the San Francisco Bay Area Purdue Alumni Club, as well as financial advisor for the Pi Chapter of Delta Delta Delta at Berkeley.
Since joining Spinsters of San Francisco in 2011, Cassie has served as the General Meetings Co-Chair. She's obsessed with mixing and mingling with new people, so it's no surprise that her most cherished Spinnie events include volunteering at the Guardsmen Treelot and the Membership Wine Tour. Cassie favorite things in San Francisco include the hot Indian summers, Bay to Breakers, Dolores Park, Balboa burgers, sailing to Sam’s, liquid lunches and champagne dinners. She is greatly looking forward to serving as Treasurer on the Board of Directors, and is thrilled to be part of such a remarkable organization!
Bailey grew up in San Francisco and Marin County. Like many Northern Californians, Bailey moved north to attend the University of Puget Sound, where she studied Politics and Government and pined for foggy San Francisco Summers. Bailey spent her junior year in Rome studying Italian immigration policy and enjoying Italian whites on patios. On graduation day, she moved back to her beloved San Francisco, where she immediately became involved in local philanthropic causes.
Last year, Bailey was the Patrons Reception Co-Chair, where she and the Patrons Committee more than doubled funds raised and instituted the Patron of the Year award, which honors a woman who has demonstrated exceptional support for the charity partner. Bailey's love of bringing people together makes her the perfect fit to be Membership Director and a friendly face at every event.
In her free time, she enjoys leading her kickball team to victory, volunteering for Girl Scouts of Northern California, wine tasting in Sonoma, and schooling her friends in fantasy sports. She is also President of the San Francisco Alpha Phi Alumnae Chapter. Look for her on the dance floor at Fleet or Flight or enjoying the company of her fellow Spinsters at membership events from potlucks to picnics.
A true San Francisco native, Charity Director Tinna Ho returned to her Bay Area roots after pursuing higher education in Santa Barbara and subsequently spending a year battling LA traffic. At UC Santa Barbara, she double majored in Business Economics (Accounting) and Japanese. Taking a yearlong break from her waterfront campus, Tinna studied abroad in the countryside of Japan, immersing herself fully in the culture, language, and rice paddies.
Since joining Spinsters of San Francisco in 2010, Tinna has planned membership potlucks and the annual Spinsters Wine Tour in the Membership Events Committee and served as co-chair in the Database/Multimedia Committee. Her desire to give back to the organization remains strong, and after serving as Treasurer and Secretary in 2012-2013, Tinna is excited to focus her attention on the charitable endeavors of the organization.
She loves keeping her calendar full - staying involved in the community, both through volunteerism and participation in local events unique to San Francisco and the Bay Area. In her free time, Tinna can be found eating her way across town, exploring all of the dog-friendly places the city has to offer, and meeting friends at her favorite spots in the city for brunch, bubbles, and brews.
Kari is a fifth generation San Franciscan, descended from a long line of Irish firefighters. Like many Californians, Kari dabbled in an adventure on the the east coast by moving to Washington D.C. After attending Georgetown University, majoring in Performance Studies with a focus on Arts Management, she couldn't bear being away from her city by the bay any longer.
Kari was destined to return to our fair city and join Spinsters of San Francisco, as she has the good fortune of being a second generation Spinster! Kari grew up hearing of her mother's fond memories of the decadent times she had as a Spinster thirty years ago. As Development Assistant at the Exploratorium, Kari knows a thing or two about how to throw a great party; a talent she put to good use when she helped raise in-kind donations while on the Development Committee and in throwing last year's Alumnae Reunion as Alumnae Committee Co-Chair.
Kari's favorite Spinsters memory is wine tasting in Napa at the Membership Wine Tour in 2012, as she met so many amazing women that she is honored to call dear friends — some of which she serves on the Board with now! When she's not socializing with Spinnie friends, you'll find her tap dancing at ODC in the Mission, enjoying the outdoors in her Presidio neighborhood, or drinking Blue Bottle Coffee while getting lost in a good book at Green Apple Books.
