Creating a lasting impact

As a social and philanthropic organization, fundraising and volunteering are the core of Spinsters.

Spinsters typically volunteer more than 500 hours annually at nonprofits throughout the Bay Area. To deepen our engagement with local nonprofits, each year our members select an organization to support through volunteer service and charitable donations.

All proceeds from our fundraising events benefit the Spinsters of San Francisco’s selected nonprofit partner, voted on each spring.

We’re proud to partner with
San Francisco SafeHouse

Spinsters is delighted to partner with San Francisco SafeHouse for our 94th year to help them fulfill their mission to “empower and support womxn who are experiencing housing instability and sexual exploitation or trafficking, by creating survivor-centered spaces, services, advocacy, and community education."

Spinsters Philanthropic History

Spinsters of San Francisco first began fundraising in 1957 to support Travelers Aid. In 1970, for the first time, Spinsters decided to give the proceeds of our Annual Ball to a nonprofit chosen by our members. By the late 1970s, our members separated the Annual Ball into two events: the Annual Ball and the Charity Ball, which has now grown into several fundraising events throughout the year.

Past Spinsters of San Francisco nonprofit partners include: Compass Family Services, Oasis for Girls, La Cocina, KEEN San Francisco, City of Dreams, Edgewood Center for Children and Families, San Francisco and Marin Food Banks, the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, Real Option for City Kids, Meals on Wheels, The Arthritis Foundation, Hospice of San Francisco, Diabetic Youth Foundation, Children’s Garden of Marin, Youth Advocates Safe Place Program, The Center for the Education of the Infant Deaf, San Francisco Ballet Dance in the Schools Program, The Alisa Ruch California Burn Foundation, The Omega Boys Club, Camp Okizu, Community Breast Health Project, The Girls After School Academy, A Home Away From Homelessness, Family House, the SF General Hospital Women’s Imaging Center and the Bayview/Hunter’s Point YMCA Just 4 Girls program.

Interested in
working with us?

Over its 94-year history, Spinsters has fundraised for a range of organizations with different community service missions. From assisting those experiencing homelessness to mentoring youth and working with low-income families, Spinsters has supported numerous service programs targeted to Bay Area needs.

While we dedicate our philanthropic efforts to one featured nonprofit partner organization annually, we are interested in participating in other local fundraising events. If you have an opportunity you would like us to partner with you on, please complete an application for one-time volunteers.

We regret that we cannot guarantee participation at every opportunity. However, we will do our best to communicate nonprofit outreach opportunities to our members, with details on how they can get involved.
